The mission of the U.S. Department of
State (DoS), Bureau of Administration, Office of Logistics Management
(A/LM) is to support U.S. diplomacy by providing efficient, economical,
high-quality logistics support and related services to customers worldwide
so they, in turn, can create a more secure, prosperous and democratic
world for the benefit of the American people. Simply put, A/LM
is the logistics manager for DoS. The vision is for A/LM to become
DoS customers’ partner of choice for reliable and innovative logistics
and business management solutions supporting the United States’
diplomatic efforts.
A/LM provides the logistics support needed to sustain those personnel
and organizations directly responsible for carrying out the Department
of State’s mission. Though A/LM is in a supporting role,
its importance is paramount because the overall mission of DoS could
not be accomplished without the material and services support provided
by A/LM.
A/LM provides worldwide support to its customers, primarily embassies,
consulates, and Foreign Service posts, but also other US Government
Agencies involved in foreign affairs and operations. There are
over 20,000 customers in approximately 260 locations around the world. State
Annex 7B, managed by the Washington Distribution Branch (WDB) of A/LM,
is responsible for the initial receipt, processing and shipment
of materials and State Department vehicles, along with the temporary
storage of shipments awaiting inspection.
The Nakuuruq Team has developed a methodology that will provide the
Department of State’s Washington Logistics Center (WLC) with performance
levels significantly better than has historically been achieved, and
at a lower cost. We are well into our second year of this process
with excellent results.
